Welcome to FPCD. We’re so glad that you’re here.

We are an intergenerational community committed to passing on our faith to the next generation. Our community is open and affirming to all. You are welcome no matter where you are on your spiritual journey. Our community encourages spiritual questions and is open to people with different points of view. There is a place where you belong at FPCD, where you’ll form lasting and deep friendships.
We have an active children’s program, including a daycare and preschool, a Sunday school program, junior high and high school youth groups, and our weekly Tuesday Night Together program. These programs help students grow in their faith and form lasting friendships. We use rigorous safety practices, creating a safe space for all children to grow.
FPCD is committed to service. We serve our community by working with local nonprofit organizations to shelter those experiencing homelessness, feed those who are hungry, and provide school supplies to kids. Every month our church works with at least two local nonprofits to put our faith into action.

FPCD has one Sunday worship service at 9:30 a.m. The service is also streamed online on YouTube, so you can preview what a Sunday is like before you visit. The service lasts about an hour. The church uses a printed liturgy, which is available at the entrance. The liturgy has the order of service and any words the congregation says together.

In the middle of the service, there is a children’s sermon. Children are encouraged to join the pastor at the front of the church. After the children’s sermon, children are dismissed to Sunday school as a group.

We are a casual church. People wear what makes them feel comfortable. You will not be out of place regardless of how you dress.

Regular members donate to the church by either leaving their gifts at the entrances or by donating online. As a visitor, you are not expected to give. You are our honored guest.

There is free parking on the building’s South, West, and North Sides. You can enter the church through the South, East, North and West Sides doors. There will be someone there to greet you at whichever door you choose.

It’s easy to get involved at FPCD. Start by filling out the information form below or complete a visitor information sheet after Sunday service. We have a gift for you and will follow up to help you find the right place to connect.

If you are interested in becoming a member of First Presbyterian Church of Deerfield, we hold a New Member Class quarterly, to explore not only the history of our faith but also the many ways God continues to be at work among us. This is a good opportunity to tour our church and explore whether you are ready to join as a member. You will discover many opportunities for mission and ministry within the church. Childcare is available by RSVP. New Members are introduced to the congregation in worship.

The name Presbyterian is rooted in an ancient Greek word that means “elder.” Far from being wrinkled and old, though, to be a Presbyterian is to be part of the Christian family that bears witness to the sovereignty of God. Presbyterians trust God for life and seek obedience to God’s call. We don’t believe salvation comes because we are good, but by the grace God lends us, we are accountable to live whole lives and steward goodness for Christ’s sake in all the world. Worship, welcome, inquiry and study, community and service are the practices and wisdom of what a Presbyterian believes make for whole living.

Presbyterians confess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, trust in Christ’s love for life, and promise to be faithful learners who obey God’s word and show God’s love. We seek the fellowship of God’s gathered people and work together, using heart, mind, soul, and strength to give God glory and serve the world God loves.

Presbyterians are unique in governance, being a church founded on democratic rule under the word of God.

As Presbyterians, we believe that God is sovereign over all of life. No arena is not “God’s business,” and therefore, there is no arena where Christians are not called to serve God.

We believe that God has revealed God’s nature as trinitarian—Father, Son, Holy Spirit, Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer.

We believe that God is the creator of the universe, Jesus Christ is the savior of the world, and the Holy Spirit is the presence of God in the world and in the believer.

We believe that the Holy Bible is the inspired word of God and true in all matters of faith.

We believe that Christ’s loving action for us makes us right with God and our neighbors, and we are called to live lives that reflect Christ’s love and justice.

We believe the Church is a universal company of Christ’s followers, diverse across the globe, like many rooms in God’s family home.

We believe that God’s love is for all people and that our love must reflect that welcoming and generous reception.
